At this year’s Spaceful Workplace Summit, Mark Bouris opened the conversation with a clear message: the operating environment is becoming harder to predict, and business leaders need to make more deliberate decisions in response.

More than 200 senior executives and industry leaders gathered at the Art Gallery of New South Wales on Wednesday 17 June 2026 for the Spaceful Workplace Summit 2026. The key takeaway was that workplace strategy needs to become more intentional, more measurable and more closely aligned to business performance.

With businesses under pressure to make smarter decisions about space, cost, culture and employee experience, the workplace has become a more strategic consideration. The event offered a chance to hear directly from people who are navigating change, making complex property decisions and rethinking how their workplaces can better support their teams.

At the AFR Workforce Summit 2026, Spaceful asked attendees, “What is the most disruptive thing about your office?”

While much of the current workforce conversation is focused on AI, hybrid work and productivity, the results show that many organisations are still dealing with basic workplace issues that affect people every day.

Together, underused space, noise and distractions, and not enough meeting rooms made up 66% of responses. This suggests that many workplaces are no longer aligned to how people actually work.
