Following successful projects in Perth, Canberra and North Ryde, Spaceful was engaged to deliver Ricoh’s fourth Australian office fit-out at Eastern Creek. The project was developed in parallel with Ricoh’s transition into a new, automated facility and was guided by Green Star principles. Spaceful defined space requirements and integrated the office fit-out within the broader development, delivering a more efficient, connected and future-ready environment.

Client

Ricoh is a global leader in workplace technology, delivering digital infrastructure solutions that improve user experience, enhance collaboration, optimise workflows and support modern ways of working.

The Challenge

Ricoh’s existing Eastern Creek workplace presented a range of base-build and planning constraints that had to be resolved to support business growth.

Key challenges included:

  • Inefficient spatial planning: The existing layout created physical separation between teams and limited connectivity.
  • Lack of growth readiness: The space was not optimised to support workforce expansion or evolving ways of working.
  • Base building alignment: The workplace design required integration with the broader development and alignment with Green Star objectives

Aligning with Ricoh’s previous fit‑outs, the new workplace also needed to:

  • Enhance employee and client engagement: Attract people into the office and deliver a memorable experience.
  • Express brand capability: Showcase Ricoh’s cutting‑edge technology alongside its long‑standing industry heritage.
  • Strengthen client-focused service delivery: Reinforce the organisation’s client‑centric service model.
  • Enable hybrid work: Support flexible work while encouraging a meaningful return‑to‑office through experience‑led spaces.
  • Support future adaptability: Ensure the workplace remains flexible, scalable and capable of evolving alongside the business.
Discover

The concept built on Ricoh’s ongoing commitment to Green Star certification, Australia’s leading sustainability rating for the built environment.

A data-driven workplace strategy established Ricoh’s spatial requirements and functional priorities.

The workplace model was shaped by six strategic priorities:

  • Innovate: A homely welcome with futuristic impact, advancing Ricoh’s digital capabilities.
  • Engage: A suite of formal and flexible meeting spaces to support diverse interactions.
  • Social reset: Informal lounges, relaxation zones, a boutique café, and biophilic elements to promote rejuvenation and connection.
  • Collaborate: A mix of settings that blur boundaries between social and working zones.
  • Flex: A highly adaptable open-plan environment featuring modular furniture and project spaces.
  • Focus: Quiet zones designed for deep concentration and acoustic control.
Design

Designed with Green Star principles embedded from the outset, Ricoh’s workplace balances hospitality, functionality and flexibility, creating a workplace experience that feels intuitive for staff and impactful for clients. The office is immediately recognisable as a Ricoh environment, while maintaining a distinct identity.

A nature-inspired, muted colour palette subtly references Ricoh’s brand colours, establishing a contemporary foundation. Soft colour blocking is layered with tactile finishes to enhance comfort and acoustic performance, while biophilic elements are integrated throughout to support wellbeing. Curtains, acoustic panelling and warm timber accents add depth, softness and a sense of calm.

Key elements include:

  • Technology integration: Ricoh’s AV design solutions are embedded into the design, demonstrating its expertise while supporting collaboration.
  • Sustainability: With Ricoh pursuing Green Star certification, the fit‑out incorporates energy‑efficient systems, environmentally responsible materials and biophilic design principles.
  • Breakout and social spaces: A warm, inviting breakout area is designed with abundant natural light, timber accents and a boutique café-style feel.
  • Wellbeing support: A dedicated wellness space with dim lighting and comfortable furniture provides a quiet retreat for restoration.
  • Warehouse connection: A meeting room with direct sight into the adjoining warehouse offers a unique window into Ricoh’s advanced machinery and robotics, strengthening the connection to brand.
  • Intuitive wayfinding: A polished concrete path guides movement through the space, contrasting with warm timber workstations and soft green tones.
  • Visual connection: Upper level internal windows overlook the space below, maintaining visual connection and reinforcing openness between teams.
Deliver

Spaceful guided the team through the full sustainability, compliance and documentation process. This ensured the workplace was designed and delivered in line with Green Star best‑practice standards.

Key delivery outcomes included:

  • Integrated stakeholder coordination: Close collaboration with the landlord, base‑building architects, consultants and builders to achieve Green Star targets without compromising program or budget.
  • Sustainability governance: Partnership with ecologically sustainable development (ESD) consultants to manage certified materials, low‑VOC finishes, ethical procurement and detailed compliance documentation.
  • High‑performance engineering: Enhanced indoor air quality, energy efficiency and acoustic performance across the workplace.
  • Wellbeing initiatives: Facilitation of on‑site mental health and wellbeing programs, including MATES in Construction awareness training.
  • Environmental management assurance: Management of a full ISO‑certified Environmental Management System (EMS) audit, reinforcing Ricoh’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
