Ricoh first engaged Spaceful to revitalise its Perth workplace. Following the success of the initial collaboration, Ricoh trusted Spaceful to deliver two further projects in North Ryde and Canberra, creating a connected workplace approach across three Australian locations.

Key challenges included:

• Encouraging office attendance: Creating environments that attract employees back into the office through experience, comfort and connection.
• Supporting hybrid work: Using Ricoh’s technology to enable more flexible, collaborative and effective ways of working.
• Showcasing capability: Bringing Ricoh’s workplace technology, AV solutions and print offering into the physical environment.
• Strengthening the client experience: Creating spaces where clients could engage with products, collaborate with teams and experience Ricoh’s service model first-hand.
• Reflecting brand heritage and future direction: Balancing Ricoh’s long-standing history with its move into a more digital future.
• Allowing for future change: Using flexible furniture, adaptable layouts and minimal fixed built form so each workplace could evolve with the business.

Spaceful developed a repeatable workplace strategy that positioned Ricoh’s offices as experience-led environments for staff and clients. Guided by the concept of mi casa, su casa, meaning “make yourself at home”, the strategy focused on creating welcoming, interactive spaces where people could connect, collaborate and experience Ricoh’s technology in use.

The strategy was shaped by six priorities:

• Innovate: Create a flexible workplace with a future-focused digital experience.
• Engage: Provide formal and flexible meeting spaces for different types of interaction.
• Social reset: Introduce lounges, relaxation areas, café-style spaces and natural elements to support connection and reset.
• Collaborate: Blur the line between social spaces and work zones to encourage more fluid teamwork.
• Flex: Use open-plan settings, flexible furniture and project spaces to support changing needs.
• Focus: Provide quiet zones with strong acoustic performance for concentrated work.

The design translated Ricoh’s workplace strategy into warm, flexible and technology-enabled spaces across Perth, North Ryde and Canberra. Each location was designed to feel welcoming and practical while giving clients and staff a clear view of Ricoh’s technology, service offering and future direction.

Key design features included:

• Pilot spaces: Welcoming, front-of-house environments where clients could test products and collaborate with the Ricoh team.
• Integrated AV: Ricoh’s proprietary AV design solutions were embedded into the workplace to support productivity, presentations and collaboration.
• Print Labs: Each location included a Print Lab, giving clients and potential clients a hands-on way to explore Ricoh’s print offering.
• Flexible furniture: Adaptable settings supported different work modes, presentations, workshops and future business needs.
• Sustainable design elements: Energy-efficient technology, environmentally responsible materials and biophilic features supported Ricoh’s focus on sustainable workplaces.
• Hospitality-led breakout spaces: Warm finishes, timber accents, natural light and social settings created space for team connection and relaxation.
• Brand expression: Nature-inspired palettes referenced Ricoh’s brand colours while creating a calm, contemporary workplace experience.

At North Ryde, Spaceful expanded the concept with porthole windows into the Print Lab, adding visibility and curiosity around the showroom. An operable wall between the pilot space and breakout area also allowed the workplace to support larger townhalls and events.

Spaceful delivered the Perth workplace first, then applied the same strategic framework to North Ryde and Canberra following the success of the initial collaboration. This repeat engagement allowed Ricoh to build a more consistent national workplace experience while adapting each office to its own scale, team and operational needs.

Delivery outcomes included:

• Repeat collaboration: Ricoh continued the partnership after Perth, engaging Spaceful for North Ryde and Canberra.
• National consistency: The same core workplace model was adapted across three locations.
• Site-specific delivery: Each workplace reflected the needs of its local team, footprint and client experience.
• Business continuity at North Ryde: The North Ryde project was delivered in a live environment, with the Ricoh team continuing business as usual during the works.
• Careful staging: Spaceful separated construction from operational areas and coordinated access to power and essential services.
• Future-ready workplaces: The completed spaces support hybrid work, client engagement, product demonstration and evolving workplace needs.
