Founded in Adelaide in 2000, Nova Systems is an Australian engineering services and technology solutions company supporting the defence and aerospace sectors.
The Challenge
Relocating its headquarters from Mile End to a new CBD location in Adelaide, Nova Systems needed a workspace that could support and sustain the company’s continued growth and celebrate its two decades of heritage and connection to aviation.
Design
The 1,500sqm workplace design takes inspiration from flight and aerial perspectives, combining functionality with storytelling. Varying shades of blue and teal on cabinetry and chairs, mimic the colours of the sky and water, while timber and leather furniture bring warmth and a nod to early aviation craftsmanship. The layout maximises light, flexibility and connection.
Key design features include:
- Aviation references: Concrete flooring reference airport runways, whilst curved textures echo topography charts and changing terrain.
- Balanced acoustics: Boardroom panels made from recycled milk bottles were chosen for their resemblance to aerial navigation lines.
- Heritage storytelling: An artefact display located in the main client waiting area showcases Nova System’s rich history with model aircraft and aeronautical relics.
- Brand reinforcement: Splash-back tiles in the staff breakout area reference the Nova Systems logo.
- Natural light: Floor-to-ceiling windows along north wall flood the area with natural light.
- Strategic zoning: Enclosed workstations are centralised to open up the perimeter, maximise natural light and enhance flow from reception to breakout zones.
- Inbuilt flexibility: A movable wall between the staff breakout and large meeting room allows easy transformation for events or private use.
