On 12 September, MATES in Construction joined the Spaceful team at our Lockton project site to raise awareness for R U OK Day and participate in MATES’ annual “Fly the Flag” event.
Since May 2023, Spaceful has maintained a partnership with MATES in Construction, a dedicated not-for-profit organisation that advocates mental health and suicide prevention within Australia’s construction, mining, and energy sectors.
The Fly the Flag is an initiative to celebrate the Connectors, ASIST workers and volunteers who facilitate raising awareness and supporting mental health within the construction industry. Held during the week of RU OK Day, this initiative encourages individuals and organisations in the industry to actively engage in promoting mental health awareness, reducing stigma, and fostering a supportive work environment.
MATES Field Officer, Marc Finnigan, and Industry Partnership Manager, Nigel Carpenter, visited Spaceful on-site to deliver an educational talk on mental health awareness in construction. They shared critical statistics on suicide rates and underscored the importance of creating visibility and dialogue about well-being in the workplace. The session concluded with the signing and raising of the Mates in Construction flag, reinforcing Spaceful’s commitment to promoting mental health awareness and creating a supportive environment where all team members feel safe discussing their mental health.
At Spaceful, we believe mental health is everyone’s responsibility. We are dedicated to creating a workspace environment where our team is supported with appropriate resources and are encouraged to engage in open, supportive conversations about mental health. We are committed to fostering a culture where mental well-being is prioritised, ensuring that everyone feels valued, heard, and empowered to seek help and support when needed.
We thank MATES in Construction for including us in their Fly the Flag initiative and, most importantly, our on-site and in-office employees for striving to create a supportive workspace.
